The City retained Urban Strategies Inc. to develop initiatives to help redevelop the core and waterfront over the next 20 years. The consultants presented their draft report to Council Committee on July 17th, highlighting a total of 33 initiatives the City may consider over the next two decades.
The strategic initiatives from the consultants are divided into broad categories which include but are not limited to:
• Increasing the residential population
• Celebrating Downtown's cultural heritage activity
• Enhancing the shopping and dining experience
• Creating new spaces for playing, gathering and relaxing
• Promoting Orillia and enhancing the visitor experience.
The City will host a public open house in August to explain the vision to residents and collect public feedback on the project. A model of the revitalized downtown and waterfront and other supporting material will be on display at the open house.
