For immediate release (October 23, 2014) – With the approach of Election Day (Monday, October 27) the City of Orillia Election Team is preparing for what will be a very busy day across the city.
Six Advance Votes took place over the last two weeks, giving those unable to attend on Election Day an opportunity to cast their ballots. A total of 2,904 voters turned out ahead of Election Day, representing a 30% increase in Advance Vote turnout over 2010.
On Election Day electors will attend the voting location in their ward, as identified on their Voter Notification Cards. There are a total of four voting locations throughout the City.
Ward 1: Masonic Building, 24 James Street East
Ward 2: Orillia City Centre, 50 Andrew Street South, Main Floor
Ward 3: Lions Oval Public School, 25 Brant Street West
Ward 4: Monsignor Lee Catholic School, 14 Fittons Road East
Voters are encouraged to bring their Voter Notification Card and identification (showing qualifying name and address) which will streamline the voting process. If voters have not received a Voter Notification Card, they can still vote and are encouraged to bring their identification with them on Election Day.
All four voting locations in Orillia will host an AutoMARK Voter Assist Terminal this year which will allow voters with disabilities and other special needs to mark a ballot privately and independently. Election Staff have been trained and will be on-hand to assist individuals with this new piece of equipment, if required.
A dedicated Election Express bus will also be available on Election Day to take voters from the Downtown Terminal to all four voting locations, picking up from the Downtown Terminal every hour on the hour between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.
Election campaign materials such as shirts, buttons and signs should be left at home, as these will not be permitted at the voting locations.
On Election Day, votes will be tallied as they are received from the voting locations. Unofficial election results will be released on the City of Orillia Municipal Election webpage following this final count.
