For immediate release (April 22, 2016) – Join Mayor Steve Clarke and Orillia Fire Chief Ralph Dominelli on April 26 as they accept a $7,591 incentive cheque from the High Performance New Construction Program for the Orillia Fire Station #1 project.
The Orillia Fire Station #1, which opened in November 2014, is equipped with LED lighting, high efficiency mechanical equipment and digital controls which qualified it to receive the financial incentive funded by the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO). The purpose of the program is to encourage customers to incorporate measures in new construction projects that exceed the minimum energy efficiency required by the Ontario Building Code.

During the design phase of the Fire Station #1 project, the Orillia Power Corporation (OPC) enlisted its Roving Energy Manager to calculate the incentive and submit the online application for the incentive to IESO. A third-party evaluator then reviewed the application to ensure it complied with IESO requirements. Once confirmed, OPC approved the application and the City was notified of the approval. Upon project completion, further review was carried out by the evaluator. When approved by the IESO, the incentive was paid to the City.
The City of Orillia has started the process of applying for the IESO incentive for the new recreation facility project at 255 West St. S., which is currently in the construction documentation phase.
