The City of Orillia is offering a free public skate in support of RBC Sports Day in Canada on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015, at Brian Orser Arena from 6 – 7:30 p.m. This event is sponsored by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orillia in partnership with the City’s Parks, Recreation and Culture Department.
RBC Sports Day in Canada, presented by ParticipACTION, CBC and True Sport, will be celebrated in communities from coast to coast to coast on Nov. 21. This national celebration is an opportunity for all Canadians to recognize the power of sport to build community and get Canadians moving!
“I am a firm believer that participating in sports at any level, whether it’s in the middle of the action or cheering from the sidelines, makes you a healthier, happier person,” said Mayor Steve Clarke. “I encourage everyone to take part in the City’s free public skate and help us promote healthy living in Orillia.”
“Public skating is one of the easiest and best ways for families to engage and interact, while experiencing a healthy lifestyle,” said Michael Ladouceur, Sport Program Supervisor for the City of Orillia. “By partnering with Big Brothers Big Sisters for the free public skate, we have been able to eliminate the financial barrier associated with sport and recreation. This is a wonderful opportunity to share in the joy of recreation.”
Join the City of Orillia and the rest of Canada as we show our support for sport by wearing your favourite team jersey as part of National Jersey Day on Friday, Nov. 20, 2015.
The City of Orillia offers five weekly public skates. Sponsorships are available to organizations, businesses and families who wish to sponsor additional public skates and allow the City to offer them for free.
