Friday, Nov. 1, 2013 – Thunder Bay and Orillia, ON

Maclean’s magazine’s annual University Rankings places Lakehead in second place among Ontario’s primarily undergraduate universities. When compared to all Canadian universities in this category, Lakehead climbed two spots from last year’s results to rank tenth overall.

When the rankings are broken down, Lakehead is first in Ontario in:

• Social Sciences and Humanities Grants

• Total Research Dollars

• Library Holdings Per Student

• Library Expenses

Maclean’s ranked Lakehead second in Ontario when it came to:

• Student/faculty ratio

• Student awards

• Scholarships and bursaries

• Student services

• Library acquisitions

• Operating budget

• Faculty awards

Lakehead also ranked third for medical/science grants, including NSERC and CIHR, and placed near the top in several other important categories.

“These results are gratifying because they recognize the hard work of our faculty, staff and students,” said Dr. Rodney Hanley, Lakehead’s Provost and Vice-President (Academic). “Lakehead has, once again, ranked highly in key areas to demonstrate our focus on the student experience and student success.”

Lakehead President and Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Brian Stevenson, said these results confirm the exceptional nature of Lakehead. “We’re proud of these rankings because they reaffirm that our faculty provides personalized attention to our students to ensure they have everything they need to drive their individual success.”

“Lakehead University continues to rise,” Dr. Stevenson added. “Just two weeks ago, Re$earch Infosource’s annual report on Canada’s Top 50 Research Universities ranked Lakehead Ontario’s number one research university in the undergraduate category.”
