As per the direction of the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, Moose Beach and Portage Bay, located at J.B.Tudhope Memorial Park, have been posted due to higher than normal bacteria count.
Beaches are posted when bacteria levels exceed those considered acceptable by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit. Bacteria counts can be affected by many factors such as agricultural run-off, faulty septic systems, sewage treatment plan by-passes, and run-off from bird, pet and animal waste. Elevated bacterial counts often occurs after heavy rainfall because of surface water run-off.
Swimming at posted beaches can increase a swimmers risk of developing irritations and infections. Beaches affected will be posted, and swimmers are cautioned to swim at your own risk. Please note, lifeguards are off-duty when a beach is posted.
Couchiching Beach located at Couchiching Beach Park remains unaffected and is open at this time.
