For immediate release (May 18, 2016) – Got a flat tire while cycling in Orillia? Repair it on the fly with the City of Orillia’s two new bicycle repair stations.
One repair station is located where the Lightfoot Trail meets the Port of Orillia and the second station is located adjacent to the Lightfoot Trail near the entrance of J.B. Tudhope Memorial Park. The bicycle repair stations allow cyclists to mount their bikes off the ground in order to carry out repairs with a variety of available tools.
“City trails continue to be a very popular route for residents or visitors travelling through and around Orillia both for work or pleasure. These bicycle repair stations are a low-cost, but effective feature along the Lightfoot Trail that allow users to re-inflate a tire or do quick, basic repairs when unforeseen maintenance issues arise,” said David Campbell, Chair of the City’s Active Transportation Committee.
As people become more aware of the benefits of active transportation in their daily lives, infrastructure such as bicycle repair stations will become more of a necessity. The purchase and installation of these two stations was approved by Council in 2016 using funding from Trails for Life donations. The City’s Active Transportation Committee and the City’s Parks, Recreation and Culture Department gratefully acknowledges those who have contributed to building an active and healthy community through trails development and enhancement over the years.
The City of Orillia is a city of 31,000 people in the heart of Ontario’s Lake Country on the shores of Lake Couchiching and Lake Simcoe. Visit our website at orillia.ca.
