Renowned economist to speak in Orillia on April 10

Local businesses are invited to join world-renowned Scotiabank Chief Economist Dr. Warren Jestin, when he returns to the City of Orillia on Thursday, April  10 at 9 a.m. in the Council Chamber at the Orillia City Centre.

Dr. Jestin, who spoke in Orillia last spring, will offer updated insights into the global, national and provincial economic outlook to the local audience, as he presents Global Prospects: The Economics of Hope. This event is free to participants. However space is limited and pre-registration is required.

Dr. Jestin will delve into the complexities of the current economic climate in Canada while taking into account recent international policies and circumstances. Jestin will provide insight on the financial market and explain how key indicators can be expected to impact our Canadian economy. According to Dr. Jestin, the cyclical recovery of U.S. consumer spending and the prospect of a comprehensive trade deal with Europe are positive for Canadian exporters. However, on a longer-term basis, the real game changer in terms of opportunity is the rapid emergence of domestic demand in Asia and Latin America.

This free event is co-sponsored by the City of Orillia Economic Development Office and Scotiabank.

Dr. Jestin is the Senior Vice-President and Chief Economist for Scotiabank, has worked at the Bank of Canada, and has taught at several Canadian universities. He has been a member the C.D. Howe Institute’s Monetary Policy Council and been involved with policy committees of the Canadian and Ontario Chambers of Commerce and the Toronto Board of Trade.
