Small-scale clearing on former Atlas Block site

Some small-scale clearing (shrub removal) is occurring on the former Atlas Block Site, with some larger trees scheduled for removal on Friday March 28 under the supervision of an arborist. The Phase 1 Development Agreement, which was executed by the CAO on March 6, 2014, permits the development of 55 townhouses on a private condominium roadway system on the former Atlas Block site. The construction of roads and underground services can now commence.

Some tree removal on City land is necessary to provide adequate sight lines for pedestrians and vehicles leaving the development site and turning onto Huronia Road, as well as for installation of services. The state of the trees and the extent of removal has been reviewed and approved by City Staff.

Some additional clearing will occur over the next few weeks and may result in the temporary closure of the Millenium Trail to ensure pedestrian safety.

The green area in the attached image shows the approximate area to be cleared around the existing trail and the new road.
