For immediate release (July 3, 2014) – An expert panel of waste diversion professionals are lined up to speak at Ontario’s first Zero Waste Conference, set to take place at Lakehead University in Orillia on Aug. 10 and 11.

A first of its kind in Ontario, the conference will bring together waste reduction experts, political and business leaders, and representatives from a range of sectors including schools, hospitals, health care facilities and other organizations to discuss concrete actions around reducing waste, conserving resources and protecting the environment.

Organizers from the Waste and Environmental Management Advisory Committee and Zero Waste Conference Task Force are excited to announce that international zero waste expert, Dr. Paul Connett, will be kicking off the event with an inspiring presentation on a future with no landfills or incineration.  Connett is author of the book The Zero Waste Solution and will offer tips related to waste solutions

Speakers Eduarda Calado, project coordinator of the greening strategy at St. Michael’s Hospital, and Claudia Marsales, senior manager of Waste & Environmental Management for the City of Markham, will both be speaking about the impact of zero waste programs in institutional settings.

Brian Zeiler-Kligman, director of sustainability for Canada’s National Brewers, will identify how The Beer Store achieved world-wide recognition for its responsible stewardship and remarkable recovery rates.

Renee Gratton, representing the Construction Resource Initiatives Council, will also be on hand to share steps being taken to eliminate waste within the construction industry.

Registration for the two day conference costs $250 per person, and includes an evening gala at Lakehead University on Sunday Aug. 10, followed by a full day of presentations and workshops on Monday, Aug. 11, focused on identifying concrete actions related to reducing waste and waste associated costs.
