For immediate release (April 9, 2015) – Local companies looking to provide the next generation of prospective tradespersons a peek inside local trade careers are invited to set up a booth at the 2nd annual Explore the Trades event on Tuesday, May 26 at OD/Park Secondary School.
The Orillia Manufacturers’ Association (OMA) and Orillia District Construction Association (ODCA) are teaming up again with the City of Orillia Economic Development Office and the Township of Oro-Medonte to host this event showcasing more than 25 local employers to students in Grades 7 through 12. Interested parents and the public are also invited to attend the event from 3-4pm.
The tradeshow style experience will give a hands-on look at local trade careers in our region. This year’s event will include exposure to opportunities in the culinary and hairstyling trades, in addition to the construction, manufacturing and automotive skills sectors currently outlined through elective programs offered in local secondary schools.
“Personally, I had a great time at last year. “It’s very important to help students discover local job opportunities in the trades” said Justin Rich owner of Orillia Tool and CNC Inc. “I look forward to participating again at this year’s Explore the Trades event in May”.
For employers looking for apprentices or part-time assistance, this is a chance to connect with interested students currently enrolled in the co-op program and/or starting college in the fall.
Meagan Hawkins of the ODCA said "This event creates a great opportunity for local students to learn first-hand what options they have for their future within the community. The construction industry is full of so many opportunities and career directions, we appreciate any chance we can to educate our youth"
