The City would like to congratulate the County of Simcoe’s Trillium Manor Long Term Care Home for securing government funding that will lead to the creation of a unique new program that will benefit seniors throughout Orillia.

The $25,000 federal grant will allow Trillium Manor to start Good Company, a program that will bring isolated seniors from the community into the home to participate in meaningful social, leisure and educational programs.

“Our hope for the program is to provide social networking, prevent social isolation and enhance the quality of life for all involved,” said Leigh Ann Febrey, a Program and Support Services Manager with the County.  “The programs offered will help establish friendships, bring people together with common interests and encourage engagement in the community.”

“Seniors who are actively engaged in meaningful social activities are likely to be happier and healthier both physically and mentally,” said Councillor Linda Murray, one of Orillia’s representatives on the County’s Human Services Committee. “Opening this program up to people outside Trillium Manor will be welcomed by many seniors and their families here in Orillia.”

Funding for the program comes from the Federal Government’s New Horizons for Seniors Program. The program supports projects led or inspired by seniors who want to make a difference in the lives of others and in their communities.

“From encouraging seniors to volunteer, to improving seniors’ facilities and increasing the awareness of elder abuse, the New Horizons for Seniors Program works to better the lives of all Canadians,” said Simcoe North MP Bruce Stanton.

Trillium Manor is located at 12 Grace Ave. in Orillia. It is a 122-bed Long Term Care Facility operated by the County of Simcoe. Trillium Manor provides 24 hour personal and nursing care, rehabilitation, medical care, social and recreational activities.
