Toys for Tickets is back, and the City is hoping this year’s edition will help make the holidays a little brighter for children and their families.
The program invites every person who receives a parking ticket (with the exception of accessible parking violations) in the City of Orillia between November 1, 2012 and December 1, 2012 to pay the fine amount by donating a new children’s toy.
People can bring their parking ticket along with an unwrapped toy in its original packaging and proof of purchase to the Orillia City Centre, Treasury Department, First Floor, 50 Andrew St. S., Orillia, on Thursday, December 6 or Friday, December 7, 2012, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
The toys will be collected and donated to local charities.
Since the program began six years ago, people have donated nearly $18,000 worth of new toys in exchange for their parking tickets.
Toys collected this year will be donated to North Simcoe Victim Crisis Services and the local chapter of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
“The holiday season can sometimes be a financial burden for many singles, couples and families and so our aim is to help people have a joyful Christmas,” said Tara Treash, Vice-President of the local chapter of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. “Toysfor Tickets has been very helpful in years past and we are grateful for the city’s assistance.”
“There’s no better feeling than putting a smile on a child’s face during the holidays,” said Pat Hehn of North Simcoe Victim Crisis Services. “Toys for Tickets is a wonderful gesture on behalf of the city and we thank them for their contribution and partnership.”
“This city will happily forego parking ticket revenue during the campaign if it means making a family’s holiday just a little more memorable,” said Shawn Crawford, Orillia’s Manager of Legislative Services.
