For immediate release (June 13, 2016) – Ditch the car and hit the pavement in support of the second annual Walk n’ Wheel Wednesday in Orillia on June 22.
“With more than 30 km of trails and a network of bicycle lanes and sharrows on local roadways, Orillia is a community that continues to invest in active transportation,” said Mayor Steve Clarke. “Join me for the second annual Walk n’ Wheel Wednesday on June 22and discover just how rewarding it is to leave the car behind for a day!”
The Mayor proclaimed Wednesday, June 22, as Walk n’ Wheel Wednesday in the City of Orillia. Walk n’ Wheel is meant to encourage people to get active and improve their health, happiness, and fitness by walking, biking, or wheeling (rollerblading, skateboarding etc.) to their destinations throughout the day.
Active transportation, which is any form of human-powered, non-motorized transportation, improves individual and community health and can be part of everyday routines, such as getting to work, school, and shopping.
Join City of Orillia staff as they are encouraged to walk, bike, or wheel to work, or take part in a 30-minute lunchtime walk to promote active transportation in the community.
The City of Orillia is a city of 31,000 people in the heart of Ontario’s Lake Country on the shores of Lake Couchiching and Lake Simcoe. Visit our website at orillia.ca.
