The City is seeking public input on the development of a neighbourhood park on the former Hillcrest School site. The Parks, Recreation and Culture Department invites the community to share its ideas and suggestions during a series of public workshops about the park development.
The first public workshop has been planned for:
Date: January 23, 2013
Time: 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Location:Orillia City Centre, 50 Andrew St. S., Tudhope-McIntrye Boardroom
The venue will open at 6:30 p.m. and at 7:00 p.m. there will be a brief presentation by the design consultant. Interactive group activities to help generate discussion and ideas about what community members want to experience in the park will follow.
“During public consultations back in 2010, individuals and families in the neighbourhood told the City that a park at the site was their priority,” said Ward 4 Councillor Tony Madden. “The City is following through on that commitment to develop viable parkland for a neighbourhood that is deficient in accessible passive-use recreation.”
“The development of this space for a neighbourhood park is fulfilling a past promise made to people living in the area,” said Ward 4 Councillor Andrew Hill. “When the City sold park space at Lion’s Oval to the local school board in 2007, the community was promised that proceeds from the sale would be used to develop a park at Hillcrest.”
For those unable to attend the sessions, residents are encouraged to visit the project web site to submit comments, review potential design concepts and keep informed of future workshops.
