Explore Your Orillia
The benefit of living in one of the most stunning areas of Ontario is you can enjoy all the natural beauty right in your own backyard. Local paddlers, anglers, hikers, and cyclists appreciate a different side to their city through its pristine waters, smooth trails, and rugged forested routes. We are truly lucky to have these amenities all around us.
We’ve also carved out a nice niche to enjoy the arts and recreation, as well as unique shopping and dining experiences throughout the city. Whether a leisurely walk or a quick drive, all these amenities are close by. Find out why so many visitors flock to your city time and again.
Enjoy a staycation almost every weekend at the local Farmers' Market and special downtown events. Every Saturday morning, The Orillia Farmers' Market offers healthy food harvested within a short drive – plus delicious homemade baking to make meals extra special. Looking for a distinctive gift? Enjoy vendors who make everything from wine and beer to handcrafted furniture, pottery and clothing. There’s a good chance you’ll even find something for your furry friends!
Special events flood the downtown core with music, entertainment and fun throughout the summer and fall. They’re a great opportunity to enjoy a day or evening without driving very far.
As we know, the area we live in has countless paddling routes along scenic waterways for the lake lovers of all experience levels and stamina. Not having their own watercraft has never stopped Orillians from enjoying the pristine water all around us. Those who want to leisurely explore the shoreline of Lake Couchiching can check out A Breath of Fresh Air, which provides rental opportunities for kayaks and standup paddleboards at its Couchiching Beach Park waterfront kiosk. Kayakity Yak also provides rentals at its Moose Beach location at J.B. Tudhope Memorial Park.
The post-and-beam-covered fishing pier at downtown Orillia’s waterfront also offers a quiet area to fish, as well as dock space for canoe and kayak access. It’s an awesome spot for people to relax with a line in the water.
Throughout the city there are also convenient parks and beaches with splash pads for the kids to cool off and have fun on modern play equipment.
Spend a few hours invigorated at the Orillia Recreation Centre, where you’ll find everything from aquatics to a gymnasium and fitness centre.
The new Witbit floating inflatable obstacle course and playground inside the lap pool encourages water play indoors on special days such as ‘Witbit Sundays.’
