FAQ
Q: What comes with my booking? |
The Leacock Museum provides 100 chairs and a registry table for ceremonies. It is up to the client to rent all required supplies, including the tent, for a reception. Please note that Leacock Museum staff do not set up for receptions. |
Q: What is involved in renting a tent?
A: We do not provide tents at this time. Although you are free to go with a tent supplier of your choice, we work with Special Occasion Tent Rentals in Orillia; they are familiar with the site.
Q: How much time do we get to decorate?
A: As part of the rental fee, 2 hours prior to your event is included for set-up. If you require extra time, a 4-hour timeslot can be added the day of your event or the evening before if available. The fee is $500 + HST and must be paid in full at the time of booking. If the extra time isn’t booked, the Leacock Museum reserves the right to book to other parties.
Q: What does the site and grounds look like? |
Below is a satellite view from Google Map |
Q: How late can my event run? |
A: The City's noise by-law (Chapter 938) stipulates that all outdoor events, including tents, must end no later than 10 PM on City of Orillia property. |
Q: Is there electricity available on the grounds?
A: Yes, we can provide electricity to specific areas on the property. There is also a power outlet available on the arbour. For details, please check with staff.
Q: Are we able to rent Swanmore Hall?
A: Swanmore Hall is no longer available for private bookings. For details about reservations and other restaurant inquiries, please contact the restaurant itself at info@farerestaurant.ca |
Q: Can we book the museum house for our wedding party? |
A: No, as a National Historic Site, the City needs to ensure the safety of the collection to ensure the artefacts is available for generations to enjoy. |
Q: Do you have a separate indoor space for the bridal party to get ready? |
A: For an extra fee, the main floor of the boathouse can be booked subject to availability. Please note that the boathouse will not be accessible in 2022 due to upgrades. Alcohol is also not allowed in the boathouse unless under a Special Occasion Permit. This can be secured by your caterer or directly through the AGCO.
Q: Do you provide an officiant? |
A: No, you are free to bring in your own. If you require assistance in finding an officiant, a list is available through the City Centre. |
Q: Can we smoke on the property?
Not generally. As a municipally owned facility, smoking and vaping are prohibited. For private functions a smoking permit can be obtained through the Museum Coordinator. A smoking area will be set up for event guests only. Please note that drinking is not permitted in the smoking area. If a smoking permit has not been obtained, please direct guests to smoke off of the museum property by the street. |
Q: How much parking is available on-site?
A: The site has shared parking with the restaurant for between 75 and 100 cars. All private booking guests are to park behind the museum house.
Q: What if there are not enough parking spaces for my guests? Can they park on the street?
A: Street parking creates issues for the museum neighbours. There is sufficient parking behind the house, and in the event that overflow is required, spaces in the parking lot nearest the museum can be utilized.
Q: What happens if it rains and I did not rent a tent? Can I get a refund?
A: Deposits are non-refundable to ensure your date is secured for your special day. Please request our cancellation policy for further details. If you have only booked a ceremony on the grounds, you may want to check with your reception facility to see if they would permit you to enter early to complete your ceremony. Otherwise, it is always best to have a tent available if there is concern about inclement weather. |
Q: Where do I go to get a Marriage Licence?
A: The City of Orillia issues Marriage Licences on behalf of the Province of Ontario. For fees, forms and other information, visit the City Registrar. |
