Have your say about the second draft of the new Our Orillia Official Plan
Official Plan review and update Statutory Public Open House May 7 from 4 to 6 p.m.
For immediate release (April 9, 2026) – Orillia has released the second draft of its new Official Plan and is inviting residents to share their feedback at an upcoming Statutory Public Open House on May 7.
“The release of the second draft of the new Our Orillia Official Plan marks an important milestone. This draft reflects the valuable feedback from the community and moves us closer to a vision that supports sustainable growth, protects our natural assets and strengthens our local economy for the next 20 years,” said Mayor Don McIsaac.
The Official Plan is a long-term policy document that guides land-use planning decisions in the City. Orillia’s Official Plan is expected to be adopted by Council before fall 2026 and will then be submitted to the Province for approval.
The purpose of the Statutory Public Open House is to gather feedback on the second draft. Key themes of the Official Plan Review include growth management and land use, housing, climate action, transportation, infrastructure, community services, and protecting the natural areas.
In-Person Statutory Public Open House:
Date: Thursday, May 7, 2026
Time: 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Location: Orillia Waterfront Centre, 50 Lightfoot Drive, Orillia
Format: Drop-in event; no pre-registration required; no formal presentation.
“The Official Plan is the vision for the City. Your insight is essential to ensure it reflects the values and priorities of everyone who lives, works and invests in Orillia. Please take the time to review the draft plan and share your feedback by attending the Open House or by submitting written comments. Your input will help shape the future of Orillia,” said Katy Modaressi, Director of Development and Infrastructure Planning.
The Official Plan Review is a multi-year planning process and occurs over four distinct stages. The City is now entering the fourth and final stage of this process.
