Orillia to host Accessibility Awareness Open House on June 2
For immediate release (May 5, 2026) – The City of Orillia’s Accessibility Advisory Committee (AAC) is inviting residents to attend an Accessibility Awareness Open House on Tuesday, June 2 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Orillia Public Library program rooms (36 Mississaga St. W.). Held in recognition of National AccessAbility Week, the event will bring together local organizations and businesses to showcase services, resources, and initiatives that support accessibility and inclusion across the community. Admission is free and all are welcome.
“This is an excellent opportunity for members of the public and local businesses to come out and share information about access to the various organizations and services being offered for improved accessibility in the community,” said Shandell Conboy, Chair of the AAC.
The Open House is designed to increase awareness of accessibility supports available in Orillia while fostering connection between service providers, community members, and local organizations. The AAC emphasizes that accessibility benefits everyone and plays an important role in building an inclusive, welcoming city.
Accessibility Champion Award
In addition to exhibitor displays, the AAC will present the 2026 Accessibility Champion Award to a local individual or business demonstrating outstanding commitment to accessibility in Orillia. The award recognizes leadership, innovation, and meaningful contributions toward reducing barriers in the community. Nominations for the award are open until May 25, 2026 at noon and the nomination form is available at orillia.ca/access.
