Snow way! Name the Plow contest is back for another year

Submit your suggestions by June 30, 2026 at 4 p.m.

For immediate release (May 26, 2026) – The City of Orillia’s popular Name the Plow contest is back with a snowplow ready for a creative name! 

This popular community contest returns following the City’s Public Works Fun Fest on May 23, where residents helped paint the blade on the plow that is now in need of a clever, creative name.

“Last year’s contest brought forward so many creative ideas and sparked a lot of community pride and excitement,” said Mayor Don McIsaac. “We can’t wait to see what residents come up with this year and to continue a fun tradition that celebrates the hardworking crews who help keep Orillia moving all winter long.”

Submissions are open until June 30, 2026 at 4 p.m., at orillia.ca/nametheplow. If you need assistance filling out the online form or do not have access to the internet and would like to submit a name, please contact Mikaela Mahoney, Manager of Fleet, at 705-325-2272 for assistance.

Once the submission period is complete, the City of Orillia’s Winter Control Team - the hardworking team behind the City’s snow clearing operations - will vote to select their top five names from the submissions. Members of the public will then vote for their favourite in July. 

The name will be unveiled this fall and displayed on the painted plow for the winter season. The plow blades will be clear coated to protect the artwork during the plowing season. 

Considerations when submitting your entry:

• All name submissions are due by June 30, 2026 at 4 p.m.
• Names submitted should be under 20 characters and no more than three words.
• Names submitted cannot be an individual’s name.
• Names submitted should be a name that is created by the submitter, and not otherwise owned or trademarked by another entity, such as a movie, TV program, or person’s name, or reference to an existing company.
• Previous winning names are not eligible for re-submission. (2024 winner - "Catch My Drift", 2025 winners - "Plowasaurus Rex" and "Ctrl+Salt+Delete").
• Entries must be respectful, family-friendly, and aligned with the City’s values; inappropriate, offensive, or unlawful submissions will not be accepted.
• One submission per person. Duplicate submissions will not be accepted.
• Email submissions or comments on social media will not be accepted or considered.
• By submitting a snowplow name, you grant the City of Orillia all rights to use, display, and publish the submitted name for promotional purposes.

In 2025, more than 223 residents voted in the final round of the contest, ultimately selecting the names "Plowasaurus Rex" and "Ctrl+Salt+Delete" for the plows.
