Mandate
The Committee of Adjustment is mandated by Section 44 of the Planning Act and is governed by Chapter 64 of the City of Orillia Municipal Code.
Purpose
The Committee of Adjustment has general and special powers. These include:
- The power to grant minor variances from the City's Zoning By-law
- The power to grant permission to expand or enlarge legal non-conforming uses
- The authority to permit a change in use where the new use will be more compatible with the intent of the Official Plan or Zoning By-law
- The power to approve consents for land severances and easements or rights-of-way within the City of Orillia (pursuant to sections 50 and 53 of the Planning Act)
- The power to issue validations of title (pursuant to Section 57 of the Planning Act)
Committee Members
There are three members on the Committee of Adjustment consisting of citizens at large.
Regular Meeting Date
Hearings are generally held the third Wednesday of the month (depending on the number of applications) at 9:15 a.m. in the Brooks Boardroom of the Orillia City Centre.
