Property Taxes

If you own property in the City of Orillia, you are required to pay property taxes. These taxes help fund essential services like roads, parks, and emergency services.

Property taxes are calculated by using the assessment provided by the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) multiplied by City's property tax rates.

Property taxes are due on March 15, May 15, August 15, and October 15 each year. Interim bills are mailed in January and Final bills are mailed in June. All payments must be received by the City on or before the due date to avoid late payment fees.

Supplementary tax bills are issued when a property’s assessment value or classification changes due to improvements or a change in use.

Late payments

Payments must be received by the City on or before the due date to avoid interest charges of 1.25% on the first working day following the due date, and 1.25% per month thereafter.

Failure to receive the tax bill does not relieve the property owner from payment of taxes or liability for penalty on late payment.

Supplementary taxes

Supplementary taxes are issued for new building constructions, additions, renovations, and property class changes. These are issued once the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) has completed their assessment.

Property assessments

The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) is responsible for assessing and classifying properties in Ontario. To understand your assessment or for concerns about you property's assessment contact MPAC or visit aboutmyproperty.ca.

Charity rebate

Eligible charities can apply for a property tax rebate using the charity rebate application form.

Tax sales

Properties with taxes in arrears for two years are subject to a tax sale under the Municipal Act.

The City can register a Tax Arrears Certificate against that property. Once this happens, partial payment cannot be made, and the property will be sold by public sale if the cancellation price is not paid within one year following the date of registration.
