Parade Permits
The City of Orillia is pleased to provide this Parade Permit Application Form to help you plan your parade, procession, or public demonstration.
The information you provide will be used to review your request for a parade permit, as required by Municipal Code Chapter 538.
Applications must be submitted to the City of Orillia Office at least 60 days before the event. A $100.00 permit fee is required at the time of application. Check out the checklist below to confirm your application is complete.
Personal information is collected under the Municipal Act, 2001 and will be used only to issue the parade permit.
Checklist for Parade Organizers
1. Review the Parade, City Road Allowances and Water Lots By-Law, Chapter 538 Article 5.
2. Complete the Parade Permit Application:
- Provide a detailed description of the proposed parade route
- Attach a copy of the Certification of Commercial General Liability Insurance with additional insured listed, The Corporation of the City of Orillia, 50 Andrew Street S. Suite 300, Orillia, ON L3V 7T5 and Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), including the Orillia OPP Detachment Commander and all Auxiliary Police Officers, 1 University Ave., Orillia, ON L3V 0Z7
3. If applicable, review the OPP Orillia Paid Duty Policy - Requestor Agreement.
4. If applicable, complete the Ontario Provincial Police Paid Duty Request Form.
5. If required, obtain a Building Permit from the City's Development Services Department (Orillia City Centre, 50 Andrew Street S. Third Floor, Orillia) for the construction of a viewing stand.
6. Sign the Parade Agreement and Indemnity Form included with the Parade Permit Application.
7. Submit the following documents electronically no later than sixty (60) days prior to the parade event:
- Parade Permit Application
- Proposed parade route
- Certificate of Commercial General Liability Insurance
- Paid Duty Request Form (if applicable)
- Parade Agreement and Indemnity Form
8. Communicate the terms and conditions of the parade permit to all prospective parade participants.
9. Ensure that no vehicle, float, trailer, or display used in the parage exceeds 4.0 meters in height.
- Note: Any costs associated with repairing damage caused by excessive height will be the responsibility of the applicant.
10. Ensure that all participants travel along the approved route and in the direction specified in the issued permit, unless otherwise authorized.
11. Ensure strict compliance with all rules and regulations outlined in the by-law and the conditions stated in the permit.
12. Post, publish, and communicate all permit terms and conditions to prospective parade participants for the duration of the event.
