Joint Compliance Audit Committee

About the Committee

The County of Simcoe has established a Joint Compliance Audit Committee with local municipalities as permitted under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996. The Committee serves all sixteen (16) member municipalities of the County and the City of Orillia.

The Joint Compliance Audit Committee is responsible for reviewing applications submitted by electors who on reasonable grounds believe that a candidate or third party advertiser may have contravened the campaign finance rules of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996. The Committee further reviews any reports of donation overcontributions submitted by local Clerks. The Committee is responsible for determining if applications will proceed towards an audit or legal action. Following an initial meeting in winter 2026, the Committee convenes as required when applications are received. Committee members will receive per diem compensation for their time.

All interested applicants are encouraged to submit a letter of interest outlining their qualifications to the Simcoe County Clerk no later than June 5, 2026. Only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
