Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability Working Group

Mandate

The Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability Working Group is governed by Schedule D.2 of Chapter 105 of the City of Orillia Municipal Code - Committees and Public Appointments.

Primary roles:

  • Identify and advise on local environmental matters which contribute to a healthy natural environment focusing on the protection and sustainability of our air, land, and water resources, including, but not limited to, Orillia’s aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems (e.g. the lakes, their tributaries and shore lands, wetlands, forested lands and developed lands).
  • Also includes work related to the development and implementation of the City’s Climate Change Action Plan and Climate Change Adaptation Strategy.
  • For the purposes of satisfying Section 8 of the Planning Act, the working group also serves as a “planning advisory committee” with respect to providing comments on planning policy matters.
