Orillia Food Access and Sustainability Working Group
Mandate
To bring diverse voices together to advise Council on food-related policies, facilitate projects that promote food sovereignty and a healthy, equitable, and sustainable local food system.
The terms of reference include:
- Conducting research and providing advice to Council Committee regarding food policies, proposals, innovative food programs and services, and any matters that are from time to time referred to the working group by Council;
- Supporting the creation, implementation, and review of a food strategy to grow a healthier, more equitable, and sustainable local food system;
- Initiating and implementing projects that promote food sovereignty, community food security, household food security, and the local food system; and,
- Collaborating with other food system partners including, but not limited to, Indigenous peoples; local municipalities; Inclusive Orillia; Simcoe County Food Council; educational institutions; community members and organizations; and local businesses to minimize duplication and optimize available resources.
