Flag Raising Requests
The Office of the Mayor administers flag raisings for the Orillia Opera House and the Orillia City Centre. Flag raisings take place Monday mornings and showcase many of the wonderful organizations within Orillia.
To request a flag raising, please email the Mayor's office identifying the date and location your organization wishes to have a flag raising. Organizations are responsible to provide their own flag for the event.
Tag Days
The City of Orillia administers the approval process for organizations/service clubs to solicit donations outside of area businesses (who are amenable to tagging). This is referred to as Tag Days. Tag days are assigned on a first come, first serve basis for the current year.
Read the Tag Days Policy to learn more, or email the Mayor's office with your request 2 weeks prior to your event.
Business Grand Openings and Celebrations
The Mayor of Orillia appreciates the opportunity to attend official business openings, ribbon cuttings, and business celebrations to present a Certificate and to bring well wishes on behalf of the City.
To request the Mayor's attendance, please email the Mayor's office at least 2 weeks prior to the event.
Citizen of the Year
Each year, the Citizen of the Year Award recognizes an individual whose volunteer efforts have made a meaningful difference in the lives of others and helped build a more caring, connected Orillia.
Citizen of the Year nominations open in February each year and must include the full name and contact information of the nominator and the nominee, as well as a detailed explanation of why the nominee deserves to be named Citizen of the Year. The award is not open to groups or organizations.
The Citizen of the Year Award is presented at a regularly scheduled Council meeting following a decision by the review panel, which consists of a number of local residents, with the assistance of the City of Orillia.
Check the City's website news and notices page, and our social media for nomination openings.
