Orillia City Council members are also members of a variety of external boards, committees, agencies; members are appointed at the beginning of each Council term or as vacancies occur. Council also appoints citizens to local boards, committees, and working groups. Summary of Public Appointments.

A mandatory advisory committee established in accordance with the Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005, and related standards set out in Ontario Regulation 191/11. |

A working group established to identify and advise on affordable housing matters including conducting research and providing advice regarding affordable housing policies, development proposals, and other matters referred by Council (1 vacancy). |

Climate Change & Environmental Sustainability Working Group |
A working group established to promote a healthy, sustainable environment by protecting local air, land, and water. It also functions as a Planning Advisory Committee, reviewing development and planning matters |

Commemorative Awards Selection Panel |
A selection panel operating at arm's length to Council which determines recipients of the Order of Orillia Award and inductees into the Orillia Hall of Fame. The group solicits and review nominations and sets the manner of the awards and presentation (1 vacancy). |

An independent, quasi-judicial body appointed by Council to make decisions on minor planning and development applications, operating under the authority of the Planning Act, to provide flexibility in zoning rules on a case-by-case basis. |

Compliance Audit Committee |
An independent, specialized body required to be established under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 to review potential breaches of election campaign finance rules by candidates or registered third-party advertisers. |

An independent civilian oversight board with provincial responsibilities as outlined in the Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019 to ensure adequate and effective policing in accordance with the needs of the area. |

A board established under the Municipal Act, 2001 oversee the marketing, beautification, maintenance, and development of Downtown Orillia as a heritage shopping attraction and primary regional centre for business in Orillia and area. |

Grants Committee |
A committee of Council members established to review grant program applications and recommend outcomes to Council. |
|
Municipal Heritage Committee |
An advisory committee established to assist Council on matters relating to the Ontario Heritage Act, and other heritage matters as Council may direct. |

Orillia Food Access & Sustainability Working Group |
A working group established to bring diverse voices together to advise Council on food-related policies, and facilitate projects that promote food sovereignty and a healthy, equitable, and sustainable local food system (1 vacancy). |

A board established to oversee the operation of the Orillia Public Library and ensure that it satisfies the needs of users with book and various media collections, provide access to the World Wide Web (Internet) and electronic databases, and enable clients to access library services remotely. |

|
A mandatory committee that has the general and special powers set out in the Building Code Act including the power to hear appeals from orders issued by the Property Standards Officer. On appeal it may confirm, modify or rescind an order or extend the time for compliance. |

|
Recreation Working Group |
A working group established to advise Council on recreation, parks, trails, and facilities, while consulting with the community to guide planning, funding, and capital priorities. |

Transportation & Parking Working Group |
A working group established to provide advice to Council regarding active transportation, general transportation and traffic, parking, and transit in relation to the City’s diverse needs, overall quality of life, and greater multi-modal mobility network (1 vacancy). |

Waste Management Advisory Committee |
A mandatory advisory committee established to keep residents up to date about the 3 Rs (reduce, reuse and recycle), and to advise Council about solid waste management issues and improving the operation and management of the waste diversion site (2 vacancies). |
