Property Standards Committee

Mandate

The Property Standards Committee is mandated by the Building Code Act and governed by Chapter 866 of the Orillia Municipal Code.

The Committee has all general and special powers, as set out in section 15(3) of the Act.

This includes the power to hear appeals from orders issued by the Property Standards Officer.

On an appeal, the Committee has all the powers and functions of the officer who made the order. The Committee may confirm, modify or rescind the order to demolish or repair OR extend the time for complying with the order, provided the Committee is of the opinion that doing so would maintain the general intent and purpose of the Property Standards By-law and Official Plan.

The Committee is made up of the members who also serve as the Committee of Adjustment.

Meetings are only held when an appeal is received.
